Your child’s first milestones are a big deal—even your child's first dental appointment. It is helpful for parents to know what to expect, though you’ll want to be careful not to over prepare your child. For many children, this leads to anxiety. If they sense you’re nervous, then they’ll be anxious as well. If you don’t make a big deal about it, more than likely, neither will they.
As the parent, you are allowed back in the operatory. However, some children do better without their parents in the back with them. You know your child best, and therefore we will let you decide which scenario will enable your child to best function. Once they’re in the back, we’ll introduce them to the room and staff. Next, we’ll introduce them to the equipment, including the laughing gas with the different colored nose pieces. Depending on their age, we may take some X-rays. We generally do those between the ages of 5 and 7 depending on their readiness and the number of teeth they have. If they’re comfortable with their first appointment, we’ll do a basic clean and polish of their teeth.
Feel free to ask us any questions. If you’re ready to schedule your child’s first dental appointment you may call our Aurora dental office. Or, if you prefer, you may click here to request an appointment online.
